Uber Files whistleblower to testify to the European Parliament

The European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs has announced that it will hold a hearing into Uber’s business practices, after Mark MacGann, a former senior executive at Uber, disclosed more than 124,000 documents to The Guardian and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in July 2022.

The hearing - titled “The Uber files, lobbying and workers’ rights” – will take place on October 25th, 2022 and will include live testimony from Mark, who is being supported in his whistleblowing journey by The Signals Network.

Working with Congress or Parliament: a resource to navigate the journey

While some whistleblowers begin their journey to hold power to account by working directly with the press or a regulator, some opt to also work with Congress or another legislative body. This route has the added incentive of potentially providing an extra layer of protection for the whistleblower.

Drawing upon years of experience and existing resources, The Signals Network has developed a brief guide to help whistleblowers considering working with US Congress or UK Parliament.  It is not intended to replace specialist advice from lawyers experienced with working with whistleblowers and/or specialist organisations like The Signals Network, but hopefully it will prove useful to potential whistleblowers.

Find some tips and a download to the guide here.

Whistleblowers featured in Time 100 Next

The Time 100 Next highlights rising leaders around the world, and this year, gives a nod to Big Tech whistleblowers, recognizing their importance in holding Big Tech to account.

The list included Daniel Motaung, whose story shared with reporter Billy Perrigo highlighted the exploitation of Facebook content moderators. The Time 100 Next profile on Daniel was written by fellow Facebook whistleblower, Frances Haugen. Meanwhile, the list also included Ifeoma Ozoma who was the force behind the Tech Worker Handbook and the new Silenced No More Act in California. Congratulations to Daniel and Ifeoma!
