Game-changing grant from the Knight Foundation

We’re very excited to announce that we have received a three-year, $1.2 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

This grant will allow us to build a diverse, independent and sustainable financial model and increase the number of whistleblowers that we protect each year. It will also help us grow our Whistleblower Protection Fund to meet growing need from whistleblowers across the world, as well as expand our contacts with journalists beyond national and international outlets to focus on second-tier markets and industry-specific journalists, especially in Big Tech, climate and health.

Announcing new board members

We are also very excited to announce that we have two new members on our Board of Directors.

Duc Luu is the director of sustainability initiatives of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Journalism Program. He is a business development and operational leader with more than a decade of experience across media and research organizations. 

Maryam Banikarim brings nearly three decades of experience across various industries including media, social media, tech and hospitality. She helped reposition Nextdoor as a modern purpose-driven digital neighborhood network, reimagined Hyatt as a purpose-driven hospitality brand, and led Gannett’s marketing and digital transformation, among other achievements.
