TSN, whistleblowers talk best journalist-source practices at ONA conference

Last week, The Signals Network joined two whistleblowers at the Online News Association conference in Philadelphia to speak about best practices for journalists working with whistleblower sources.

The panel featured TSN’s Director of Operations Rebecca Petras; Duc Luu, TSN board member and director of sustainability initiatives of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Journalism Program; #MeToo whistleblower Ali Diercks; and health care industry whistleblower Wendell Potter.

Unicorn Fund awarded to Twitter whistleblower Anika Collier Navaroli

The nonprofit Media Democracy Fund has awarded Twitter whistleblower Anika Collier Navaroli the Unicorn Fund, as part of its project that identifies and supports those who inspire others to exercise courage in order to advance equity and justice.

Navaroli, who receives support from TSN, has also joined the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at the Columbia University Journalism School in New York, her alma mater, as a Senior Fellow.

TSN speaks at D.C.’s Whistleblower Summit & Film Festival

Last month, TSN’s Rebecca Petras spoke at the opening plenary of the 11th annual Whistleblower Summit & Film Festival on Capitol Hill. The festival celebrates whistleblowers through their fascinating — and often very difficult — stories.

During the event, Theranos whistleblower Erika Cheung reflected on her years-long whistleblowing journey and those who helped her, including other whistleblowers and TSN.
