Whistleblower protections in Israel

Last week, The Signals Network joined researchers, whistleblower advocates and other stakeholders in a conference panel in Ramat Ganthe to discuss existing legal practices for whistleblowers in Israel, as well as gaps and potential recommendations for better protection.

One year of EdTech Exposed

In 2022, we coordinated the media reporting of Human Rights Watch’s ground-breaking international research showing that EdTech products monitor children without the consent of the children or their parents.

The reporting — which was collectively called EdTech Exposed — has continued to have worldwide impact since it was released just over a year ago. Read some of the highlights here.

• More impact from the Uber Files: Last week, French lawmakers questioned Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi about Uber’s aggressive lobbying tactics as revealed in the Uber Files. Read ICIJ’s report.
• Congrats, ICIJ! The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists has won a 2023 National Headliner Award for its work on The Uber Files, “exposing how the tech giant influenced world leaders, cozied up to oligarchs and dodged taxes amid its chaotic global expansion. The investigation placed first for online investigative reporting for digital partnerships with other news outlets.”
• Context News interviewed Daniel Motaung, who receives support from TSN, about his mission to fight for workers’ rights as he sues the former Facebook content moderator contractor that fired him and Facebook’s parent company, Meta.
• #MeToo whistleblower goes public: Ali Diercks, a previously anonymous source to The New York Times for a story involving former CBS executive Les Moonves, recently spoke to The Daily podcast about the fear and repercussions that come with being a whistleblower.
