I can’t tell you what I’m working on
A letter from our Executive Director
At The Signals Network, much of our work happens quietly, behind the scenes—for the safety and protection of the whistleblowers we support. But in this letter, our Executive Director, Delphine Halgand-Mishra, shares a glimpse of what this work looks like, what we’re facing, and what gives us hope.
Here’s what she has to say:
I can’t tell you what I’m working on.
I can’t tell you who we put in a safe house this week or in which country.
I can’t tell you which TV investigation to watch or news articles to read if you want to know which whistleblowers TSN is protecting at the moment.
I can’t tell you because the safety of the whistleblowers we protect is our highest priority.
Most of the time for safety reasons, we cannot say which news article, which investigation, which revelation was made possible thanks to an anonymous whistleblower that we are supporting and protecting. Because saying publicly that TSN helps an anonymous whistleblower who made revelations possible in such an article could create an additional risk for the whistleblower.
It is sometimes frustrating to not be able to share more details about the courageous whistleblowers we are protecting, the amazing journalists they work with and how we work in this invisible backstage that made huge revelations possible.
So it is nice to see media partners like Papertrailmedia pointing to TSN on their contact page. It’s also a way for potential sources to know they won’t be alone on the whistleblowing journey and to acknowledge our invisible backstage work.
What I can tell you is that:
TSN provided support to a whistleblower behind one of the 2025 Pulitzer Prize finalists.
TSN provided support to a whistleblower behind one of the 2024 Pulitzer Prize Winners.
TSN provided support to more than 44 whistleblowers since the beginning of 2025. (In 2024, we supported 40 whistleblowers. There is a massive increase of requests and support provided thanks to our amazing talented and collaborative Whistleblower Protection Program team.)
I also want to tell you that every time I jump on a call with a partner I have never met but that knows about our work at TSN, I’m amazed by their immediate enthusiasm to help without asking questions. Every time, I’m amazed of the reputation TSN built in legal, journalism, NGO circles. People are ready to help and to trust us. In these worrying times, it’s good to remember that the “resistance” network already exists.
Warm regards,
Delphine
